I got a fibersample from a Finnish Lapphund a while ago, and I spun it up to a soft and nice yarn :)

Border Collie yarn

Monday, August 30th, 2010

I got a bag of fur that was brushed of my FILs Border Collie, Kira.  And I spun it up to a nice sample yarn. After washing it came out really nice!

I only had a pic of her head, but at least it is a pic of her :)

Leonberger

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

When we were at Camp pluckyfluff in May, someone had put some fibers from their Loenberger on the sharingtable. I grabbed a handpul and took it with me home. It is not much, but it came out as a nice yarn I think.

Spinning dogyarn.

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

A few days ago my neighbour gave me a bag of fur from her friends Bernese Mountaindog, she had visisted her freind and they were grooming their dog and she thought of me and that I probably would like to try spinning the “dogwool”. Now that is a true friend!!!

I got a big nice and soft fluff from this dog called Shiraz (Not my pic, but I got permission from the owner to post the pic here).

And I decided to spin it as it was because the fiber was already sort of carded from the grooming, and I wanted to see how the fiber acted without blending in any other fiber for strength and such.

And I spun the fibers as two singles with a high twist, so that they would ply nice and tight. The yarn is 52 grams, 61 meters and 12 wpi that would be a sportweight yarn. The fibers in its loose form was very nice and soft, but the finished yarn came out a bit coarse, and I would not prefer to have it next to my skin.  But I liked this experience and I have abit of Samoyed and Newfoundland dogfur coming my way soon to try to spin :)
